Funded Art Residencies to Know About

Updated 2026:

Fully funded artist residencies can be difficult to find, but they offer invaluable time, space, and resources for creative work. That’s why we’ve curated this list of top opportunities for 2026 — spanning different formats, disciplines, and locations. Whether you're an emerging or established artist, these residencies are worth knowing about.

If you’re interested in a virtual residency opportunity, we’ve also put together a list of virtual residencies to check out.

Camargo Foundation

Located in Cassis, France, the Camargo Foundation has been awarding residencies since 1971. The foundation hosts a core residency program each year. And it has organized a further residency program for African-American and African playwrights, and a program focused on artistic engagement with the natural environment, among a number of partnership programs. Its core program is open to artists internationally, supporting research, experimentation, and interdisciplinary approaches. Through 6-11 week residency fellowships, artists and researchers are provided time and space to focus on their work and engage with others. Fellows also receive 250 USD per week, as well as funding for basic transportation to and from Cassis.

The Rijksakademie

The Rijksakademie welcomes applications from artists to develop their work over one or two-year periods in Amsterdam. They house a highly international, multi-disciplinary, experimental and critically engaged artist community. Residents are supported with a studio, a work budget and a stipend and benefit from an array of opportunities for exchange. They are seeking residents for the period January–December 2027, with the possibility of staying one year more.

Between 1 January – 1 February 2026 interested artists can apply for the residency year 2027.

Maajaam

The residency program at Maajaam invites artists to participate in Wild Bits, an exhibition concept that proposes a temporary art park in the wilderness. Through this open call, applicants present installations, interventions, or processes to be placed in natural landscapes that explore the human condition in a contemporary technological society.

During the three-week residency, artists will be accommodated in the Maajaam residency house. Projects will receive an artist’s fee of 3000€, a production budget of up to 5000€, twice-daily meals, and a travel budget of 350€ per person within Europe and up to 700€ for artists traveling outside the EU.

Applications are due on 31 January, 2026.

Córtex Frontal

ON SITE is the first residency programme within the context of Hypertextile 2027, the first edition of a biennial textile art festival in the Alentejo region. In a territory where carpets have been hand-embroidered since the Middle Ages, the festival invites a reflection on textiles as a way of (re)interpreting the place and discovering Arraiolos through contemporary art. The programme offers five visual/textile artists the opportunity to take part in a research and creation residency focused on the relationship between art and territory, in Arraiolos in May 2026.

Participants receive a participation grant, accommodation, access to workspace and equipment, travel and production support, and curatorial guidance. For the exhibition, benefits include the transport and insurance of artworks, artists’ travel and accommodation, and inclusion in the Hypertextile 2027 catalogue.

Applications close on 31 January, 2026.

Akademie Schloss Solitude

Located just outside of Stuttgart, Germany, Akademie Schloss Solitude is an international residency program. Established in 1990, the program is designed to offer time and space for young artists to work and research free from the pressures and distractions of everyday life. The Akademie provides residents with a fully equipped living/working studio, a monthly fellowship grant of € 1,300, and covers travel expenses for arrival and departure to the program.

McColl Center

McColl Center's Artist-in-Residence Program is an internationally acclaimed program that serves as a catalyst for artistic growth for emerging and mid-career artists. We offer flexible residency terms throughout the year, with a dedicated summer session for parents and/or educators. Artists-in-Residence receive private housing adjacent to McColl Center, a large-scale private studio in our historic building in Uptown Charlotte, curatorial guidance, marketing and PR support, and a generous stipend.

Applications will open Summer 2026.

DAAD

The duration of the fellowship is twelve months in the visual arts, literature, and music categories, and six months in the film category.

Both during and after their period of residency in Berlin, the fellows receive support to develop and present exhibitions, concerts, performances, film projects, readings, and publications. DAAD also provides a monthly stipend, a furnished apartment, travel expenses (scheduled flight, economy class), and German language courses (optional).

The application period for Film, Music & Sound, and Literature typically opens in mid-October and closes in mid-December.

La Napoule Art Foundation

Residents are housed in single rooms in the recently renovated Villa Marguerite, located across a small street from the Château. Rooms are equipped with private baths and each has sea or garden views.

LNAF provides each resident with a stipend, plus a studio space in which to work. Studios are located throughout the Château property, some inside the castle and some in towers on its grounds.
