IslandWood | AIR program

IslandWood is a 255-acre outdoor learning center. The Artist-in-Residence program brings in "teaching artists" to work with the students, teachers, and IslandWood staff during our School Overnight Program. These artists are locally, nationally, and internationally known and represent various disciplines, media, cultures, experiences, and ages.

Location: Bainbridge Island, WA

Jack Straw Cultural Center | Artist Support Program 2027

The Artist Support Program has been assisting artists working creatively with sound since 1994. Artists of every genre and style have been represented, including writers, choreographers, multidisciplinary artists, theatre sound designers, radio producers, film makers, visual artists, and musicians and composers of all types.

Every year, up to eight artists are awarded twenty hours of studio recording and production time with a Jack Straw engineer. An additional twelve artists receive matching awards for studio time as part of our Artist Assistance Program.

Bloedel Reserve | Creative Residency Program

The Creative Residency program provides artists and innovative thinkers with a three-week stay in a well-appointed home on the Bloedel grounds, with unlimited access to the Reserve’s 150 acres of nature. Residents benefit from nurturing their passions and deepening the connection between creativity, nature, and humanity.

Hedgebrook | Writers-in-Residence

Hedgebrook is on Whidbey Island, WA. The retreat hosts writers from all over the world for fully-funded residencies (excluding travel) of two to four weeks. Their residency offers two to four-week stays to women-identified writers. Hedgebrook is on Whidbey Island, about thirty-five miles northwest of Seattle. This residency is open to women-identified writers 18 and older.

Willapa Bay AiR | Artist Residency

This residency has been designed, from the site selection to the architecturally specific building concepts, layouts, and materials, to combine the opportunity for solitude with the opportunity for daily community that fosters creative endeavour. They offer month-long, self-directed residencies to emerging and established artists. Starting next year, the residency will be focused upon supporting composers and singer-songwriters, including providing sound studio and engineering facilities.

Centrum Foundation | Emerging Artist Residency

This residency is aimed at visual and interdisciplinary artists in the Pacific Northwest who are towards the beginning of their creative paths and can benefit from the time to focus and receive support from a community of peers and specialists in their fields.
